Discover the tranquil countryside and village life outside Hanoi on a full-day trip. Visit Van Giang for a cooking demonstration, lunch, and a traditional performance. Then stop in Bat Trang to purchase ceramics or try out making some of your own.

What to Expect

Spend a day visiting the area surrounding Hanoi on an 8-hour trip to the villages of Van Giang and Bat Trang.

Travel first to Van Giang, located 15.5 miles (25 kilometers) from the center of Hanoi. Walk with your cooking host to the local market to pick up some fresh ingredients for cooking. On your way back, visit the vegetable garden for some herbs. Then you will learn how to prepare a meal and help out with cooking the feast. Once completed, enjoy tasting the fruits of your labor.

Next, watch a traditional music performance out in the yard, and learn how to sing the songs. Then head to Bat Trang, a village known for its marvelous ceramic products. Shop in the Bat Trang Old Market and then visit a communal house to try making ceramics of your own. Afterward, begin the drive back to Hanoi.
